Are You Doing It Right? Do’s and Don’ts of Social Media Marketing

  • Do post at the right frequency and times. Be selective so you aren’t inundating your followers, but stay present with a weekly posting. Facebook and Twitter readers are best reached in the mornings, while Instagram posts work well in the early evening. Of course, publish exciting breaking news right away!
  • Do incorporate a variety of media. No one wants to read long banks of text. Break it up and intrigue readers with photos, videos and shareable infographics. Research shows that 80% of readers prefer live video to a text post.
  • Do offer value to readers in the form of solutions. You know your target audience and customer, so tailor your content to helpful solutions. Don’t just explain what heel pain is, show how you can help. Instead of spouting statistics on teen auto accidents, offer your free e-book on Distracted Driving.
  • Do get personal. Show your character and your practice’s culture. Share videos and photos of your staff at work and at play. Add humor – everyone loves a good chuckle and funny posts are shareable. Post about your favorite charity and include photos of you and your staff volunteering.
  • Don’t ignore any platform. Have you spread yourself too thinly across multiple sites? Ignoring a social media account can backfire if a potential patient or client posts a comment or question that isn’t addressed. Only maintain those media platforms that you can manage.
  • Don’t let questions or comments go unanswered. Social media is about engagement and building relationships. By answering questions, you’ll be demonstrating your expertise and the capabilities of your firm. And tackle negative comments quickly – this is reputation management and the perfect opportunity to make things right.
  • Don’t forget links. After all, this is what digital marketing is all about – persuading readers to visit your website to learn more about your services. Your goals are connection and conversion! Link to relevant content on your website so readers can learn more.
