OUR LATEST STORIES & NEWS

marketing lessons

As we enter the second quarter of 2021, it’s a good time to reflect on the marketing lessons we learned last year. 2020 was certainly full of surprises and business owners had to roll with the punches, regardless of if they were prepared.

But while it was stressful at times, it was also inspirational to see so many businesses face unparalleled events head-on and pivot to succeed. It revealed that the best companies are truly resilient and that every challenging situation also brings with it unique marketing lessons and opportunities.

Valuable Lessons Learned

  1. Remain Flexible: As business owners, we plan, anticipate, and craft solid strategies that will help us hit our goals. And last year, the most successful business owners responded to unforeseen events by adapting decisively and quickly. One of the main things they learned is that they had to pivot their business in many ways and remain flexible.
  2. Lead with Empathy: Last year took the role of empathy to a whole new level. During an especially stressful and uncertain time, consumers were eager for connection and community. As a business owner, you had to focus on providing your target market with what they needed – which was empathy and reassurance.
  3. Stand by Your Values: By adjusting to consumer needs and putting safety measures in place swiftly, you earned respect and support from your customers. As you go through 2021, make sure your vision, mission, and values are appropriate and that everyone in the company understands what your company stands for and acts accordingly.
  4. Be Honest: Trust is crucial when nurturing a successful brand, but you can’t keep it—or cultivate it—if you aren’t honest with people, particularly in uncertain times. Business owners had to be honest and proactive in their communication with their customers. And that’s a lesson you can take with you into the future.
  5. Simplify, Simplify, Simplify: One of the biggest takeaways for us, for sure, is that life is short, and time is valuable. And where you spend that time matters. As it relates to marketing your business, that means simply concentrating on the things that make the most impact, such as serving the core needs of the customers.
