Your “Call to Action” in every online or hardcopy marketing piece that you publish is the whole reason for creating marketing content. You want your readers’ business and you want them to be lured into action to contact you.
A “Call to Action” (also known as a CTA) is defined as language that encourages the reader to take a specific action. Your potential patients or clients have problems – you have the solutions. A CTA is a bridge that connects your customers’ problems and your excellent services.
As with every type of content, from blogs to social media posts, from email campaigns to e-newsletters and even web pages, there is a right way to craft a CTA.
Here are our top 6 tips on making your CTAs strong and actionable:
- Give readers a reason to contact you. For service providers, this usually means offering solutions to their problems. Have a medical problem? “Call us today to start relieving your pain now!” Been injured in an accident? “Click here for your free consultation!”
- Wording matters. Be enthusiastic – use exclamation points (see our example below) and strong action verbs. Compare “Change your life by calling us today!” with “Call us today at our Smithtown office!” Which example would motivate you more?
- Use fear of missing out. Don’t be afraid to use a little negative motivation like “Take the right step to end your tooth pain before it gets worse!” or “Download our e-book today while still available!”
- Be brief. Don’t overload your marketing content with CTAs. Remember, the first goal of your content is to educate and provide solutions. Readers will click away if your piece is filled with CTAs, so make yours concise and effective.
- Keep it relevant. Don’t use the same old CTA with every blog or posting, but instead customize it to match your topic. If your content is about distracted driving, “Call us if you have been injured in an accident where distracted driving may have been a factor” is more effective than “Call us if you have experienced a personal injury.”
- Placement is important. Herald your web pages with a CTA at the very top so it jumps out at the reader. Also, it’s a natural lead-in to place your CTA anywhere you want your reader to complete a task. At the end of your blog about heel pain, add a CTA about relieving that specific symptom.
The right call to action in the right place can increase your conversion rate and make clients and patients out of casual web surfers!
