Facebook Ads Filters Hone in on Your Targeted Audience

Facebook knows its users and that can help you target the right people for your services. By specifying attributes in advance, you can be sure that your ad is being shown to the right audience and not just broadcast all over the Facebook world.

Here’s a sample of the targeting filters that you can select for each of your Facebook ads:

  • Gender: Male, female or both.
  • Age group: Choices are 13-17, 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65+. You may choose one or more groups, but any Facebook user without an age will not see your ad.
  • Birthday: You can create a special birthday offer for those who click on your ad.
  • Location: Select the countries for your ad and, in the U.S., the state or even specific cities. This filter is particularly helpful for local businesses.
  • Likes and interests: Use keywords to target interests that are relevant to your practice. For example, if a user has “running” in his or her profile, your ad with “running” in this filter will show for that user.
  • Relationship: If it fits your business, you can target a user based on the profile relationship status such as Single, Married or In a Relationship.
  • Language: Target users based on their profile language(s).
  • Education: Should your ad target college grads? You can pick that filter.
  • Workplaces: You can zero in on users who have listed a specific workplace. Caution: the spelling must match the filter.
  • Connections: Take advantage of users who are already connected to a specific Facebook page, group or event, for example, “Dog Lovers” for a veterinarian.
  • Friends of Connections: You can target those Facebook users connected to your business page who also have at least one friend connected to your business page too.
