Max Homa did not have his best outing at the recent WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis. The California golf pro-shot poorly in the first two rounds, and fantasy golf participants who counted on him to boost their numbers turned to Twitter to let him know how unhappy they were.
When the tweets started to get nasty, one user came up with a brilliant suggestion to create an opportunity for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This enterprising user volunteered to make a contribution to a charity for every birdie – a score of one-under-par on a golf hole – that Homa made in the next round.
Homa chose St. Jude for the charity and the Twitter pledges took off. Although the golfer finished well behind in the pack, his four birdies became the basis for substantial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
